The lavender originally comes from the rocky, dry mountain slopes around the Mediterranean. Now it grows on huge fields and determines the characteristic picture of the High Provence.
The plant has been used as an ornamental plant and as a fragrance since the Middle Ages.
Lavender (lavandula angustifolia) belongs to the family of labiate flowers (lamiaceae) with a stature height of up to 1 meter. Greyish-silvery, lancet-shaped leaves grow on its long, slender stems and at its ends the small, lavender-colored flowers that are arranged in false whorls. The flowering period is from July to August. The flowers are harvested early in the morning when they are opening. You cut them off with the stems and dry them.
